Production of an original Sheffield based magazine
SPH Publishing are opening a publishing house in Sheffield. They are looking for some new magazines to cater for a Sheffield audience in a range of genres.
You have been asked to create four pages of a new magazine aimed at a Sheffield audience.
Genres could include:
1. Local events magazine
2. Music magazine
3. Sports magazine
4. Technology based magazine
All content produced must be original and produced by you. However any copyright- free assets may be used, but must be referenced.
As with all your coursework units:
1. ALL content must be original (i.e. photos, body copy, graphics etc.)
2. You must use desktop publishing software to successfully produce and layout your magazine pages.
There are four learning outcomes for this:
LO1: Be able to produce to create a proposal with sample materials for an original media product to a client brief
LO2: Be able to plan and develop pre-production materials for an original media product to a client brief.
LO3: Be able to create production materials for an original media product to a client brief.
LO4: Be able to carry out post-production techniques and processes for an original media product to a client brief.
This LO is worth a MERIT grade
To complete this LO, you need to complete the following:
TASK 1:
You will start this unit by analysing existing magazines to help you understand the codes and conventions of magazines, which will influence your final production
TASK 2:
You will complete a short pre-lim task to help you develop skills in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign to create a front cover and contents page of a UTC based college magazine.
TASK 3:
You will create a proposal that outlines your ideas for your intended magazine including:
1. Specification
2. Purpose
3. Form and genre
4. Content
5. Target audience
6. Resources and personnel
7. Distribution and marketing methods
TASK 4:
You will produce sample materials to support your proposal
